Whole Earth & Sea Marine Algae-3 - 30 Vegetarian Softgels
About Pure Food Marine Algae-3™
Microalgae are a key source of omega-3 EFAs. Other plant sources, such as flax, chia, and hemp seeds, contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a shorter chain omega-3, which the body can only partially convert into EPA and DHA. Marine Algae-3 provides highly concentrated, preformed EPA and DHA, bypassing the need for conversion.
Omega-3 fatty acids, including DHA and EPA, support cognitive health and brain function, as well as cardiovascular health. DHA is especially important to brain function, and comprises 30–40% of the long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in the cerebral cortex. It is highly concentrated in the cell membranes of the retina and brain, especially the synapses. With six double bonds, DHA is the most unsaturated fatty acid, which means it makes membranes the most fluid and biochemically efficient. It facilitates the healthy structure and function of cells. DHA also affects neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine regulation.
Omega-3 fatty acids are vital to healthy cell membranes, the dysfunction of which is a critical factor in the development of virtually all chronic diseases. EPA and DHA are also transformed into prostaglandins, compounds that help regulate heart, digestive, and kidney function; inflammation and hormone production; and blood pressure.
